Protocols HTTP/REST, Native binary

The server speaks JSON over HTTP by default. Started with USE_TURING_PROTO=1 it speaks TuringDB's own binary protocol on that port instead, used by the Python SDK's native backend. Corrects the August 2026 reading, which took the binary backend to be a payload encoding over HTTP; the docs have since been rewritten. Embedded mode is in-process and carries no protocol tag.

License BUSL-1.1

Corrected from 'BSL-1.1' to 'BUSL-1.1': the LICENSE file is the Business Source License 1.1 (shown as NOASSERTION on GitHub), whose SPDX id is BUSL-1.1, not BSL-1.1 (the unrelated Boost licence).

Language C++

Confirms the current value; README states the engine is built in C++, and GitHub's byte-count is dominated by C++.

  • TuringDB is a high-performance, in-memory, column-oriented graph database engine, built in C++ for analytical, AI-driven, and read-intensive workloads.

Released 2025

No tagged GitHub releases predate v1.20 (Feb 2026), and the GitHub repo itself was only made public 2025-08-01, so there is no formal 'first release' artifact. The earliest Internet Archive snapshot with fully rendered marketing content (the site is a client-rendered SPA; earlier 2025 snapshots only captured the page shell) is from 2025-11-09 and already describes TuringDB as a working graph database engine, supporting 2025 as the year it went public.

features.documentation_up_to_date 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: docs.turingdb.ai. The docs target the current v3 SDK and carry troubleshooting entries for the 3.0.2 server, which suggests they are maintained alongside releases; this is an inference, not a dated statement.

  • The SDK targets TuringDB v3: pin turingdb>=3.0.2 in your project

features.binary_protocol 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: native binary protocol with a Python binary client, alongside HTTP. Current docs describe it as a server mode (USE_TURING_PROTO=1) that replaces JSON on the port, which may no longer match the 'rides HTTP' note on the protocols claim.

  • 1 makes the server speak TuringDB’s binary protocol instead of JSON over HTTP.
    CLI Commands · reviewed 2026-10-27
  • A server in binary mode serves the binary protocol only

features.granular_locking 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: zero-lock architecture. This is lock-free snapshot execution rather than fine-grained locking, so the match with the feature is the vendor's reading.

features.read_committed_transaction 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: snapshot isolation is stricter than read committed.

features.transaction_support 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: ACID with snapshot isolation, and commits are durably written to disk.

  • TuringDB is Fully ACID-Compliant
    Snapshots Isolation · reviewed 2026-10-27
  • Fully [ACID](https://docs.turingdb.ai/concepts/snapshots) with snapshot isolation
    turingdb/README.md · reviewed 2026-10-27

features.secondary_indexes 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Vendor note: CREATE INDEX property and string indexes, plus vector indexes. Only the vector indexes are documented publicly. The repository's docs/indexing.md (a design note) says: "We wish to have *indexes* which speed up retrieval of certain data from the DB." and describes CREATE INDEX in the future tense, and no CREATE INDEX page was found on docs.turingdb.ai. Worth raising with the vendor.

  • A vector index is defined by a name, a dimension, a distance metric and, optionally, an index type.
    Vector Search · reviewed 2026-10-27

    CLI Commands · reviewed 2026-10-27

features.authorization 1

Vendor-confirmed by TuringDB (email to GDB-Engines, 2026-10-26). Listed under the Enterprise tier on the pricing page. The Community Edition authenticates with a single configured API key (auth/Authenticator.h); permissions are an Enterprise feature.
