NeuG

An embedded property graph database for combined analytical and transactional workloads, developed by the GraphScope team at Alibaba on the GraphScope Flex engine. Runs in-process from Python or Node.js or as a network service on the same core, with Cypher queries and a DuckDB-inspired extension system for graph algorithms.

Protocols HTTP/REST

Default Embedded Mode is a linked library (Python/Node.js); calling db.serve() switches to Service Mode, which starts a BRPC-based HTTP server exposing POST /cypher and GET /schema, /status.

  • Embedded Mode: Optimized for analytical workloads including bulk data loading, complex pattern matching, and graph analytics

  • NeugDBService provides an HTTP interface layer for the NeuG graph database, enabling remote query execution over HTTP.

Language C++

Confirms current value. C++ dwarfs every other language in GitHub's byte counts (8.9MB vs 1.1MB for Python, next-largest), and the README credits its core Cypher compiler to a C++ codebase (Kuzu).

Lineage borrows code from Kuzu

Only the Cypher compiler; the engine itself is GraphScope Flex.

  • Our C++ Cypher compiler is adapted from Kùzu's implementation
